Unemployment Insurance is designed to pay you a monthly income for up to 12 months in the event of you being made redundant or having to quit work to become a full time carer for a member of your immediate family.
Unemployment Insurance allows you to cover a percentage of your gross salary up to a maximum amount. You are not required to have a mortgage or loan to take out unemployment insurance, it is purely and simply based upon your employment and income.
Your employment status is an important consideration when considering unemployment cover as the terms offered and requirements for a claim will sometimes be different for those that are employed compared to those that are self-employed, company directors, contract workers or those employed by a family member.
Please note that unemployment insurance is not available in isolation and normally comes with accident and sickness cover.
